Phillips School of Nursing at Mount Sinai Beth Israel HESI Remediation and Grading Policy This document describes the HESI Remediation and Grading Policy for the nursing students at Phillips School... of Nursing at Mount Sinai Beth Israel. HESI Remediation Remediation is defined as “The process of identifying the need to take action to remedy a situation that, if left unresolved, will result in unfavorable outcomes, whereas implementing intervention strategies will successfully address the situation” (Cullieton, 2009). Following HESI Specialty and Exit Exams, students are required to remediate and the remediation requirements are dependent on each individual student’s HESI score for each exam. HESI Exam Scores can be indicative of the student’s level of success in the program and on NCLEX. Students with lower HESI scores require more intense remediation. Students must complete remediation based on the HESI score they achieved on the Proctored Exam. Students receive their HESI Exam reports and correlating online remediation within 24 hours of the exam being closed. From their HESI Exam student report, students will develop their personal plan for remediation. Remediation must be completed on the due date set by course faculty. Refer to the grading document below for course-specific HESI requirements. Students will receive an “Incomplete” grade for the course if they are unable to complete the contract, the specified remediation activities, and take all the practice and proctored exams as described in the policy. Missing any proctored HESI exam due to unexcused absence will result in a 3-point deduction on the final course grade. Students are required to complete these remediation requirements. Students must complete the work on their own and sharing of information or working with other students or external parties is considered academic dishonesty and can lead to student dismissal.
