Differentiate between special interest groups and coalitions. Do you belong to one of these? Do you feel that you should belong to one of these? Why or Why not? Do you belong to either? How does the... se differ from a political action committee? Which of the three are the most powerful? Do you feel that they exert more illegitimate or legitimate power? An interest group, also referred to as factions, special interest groups, pressure groups, or organized interest groups, is a collection of people with the same ideas, and interest coming together to influence political agendas, policies, elections, votes and any other political process. The health sector is the sixth largest interest group contributor (Mason, Gardner, Outlaw & O’Grady, 2016). I am a member of two of the contributors, both ANA and AANP. A coalition is a collection of interest groups or individuals committed to combating a common issue. The coalition may have several different interest groups working together towards a common goal (Heaney & Leified, 2018). I feel like it is part of my professional duties to be part of an organization that will advance my knowledge, clinical competencies, leadership skills and promote practice advocacy (Mason et al., 2016). Policy changes are greatly influenced by interest groups more so than an individual. A 2014 study analyzed the relative influence of elites, interest groups and voters on policymaking. The study revealed that economic elites and organized groups have substantial independent impacts on U.
