Cloud computing is where data and computer programs are stored and accessed through the Internet rather than from the computer’s ... hard drive. Cloud computing has become a fundamental integration into business operations. In today’s highly technological environment, various companies offer and use public, private, and/or hybrid cloud services and applications. Why do organizations use cloud computing? What are the advantages and disadvantages of implementing cloud computing technology? This paper will answer those questions by examining two organizations that use and offer cloud computing, Microsoft and IBM. Organizations and Cloud Computing In my opinion, there are no definite characteristics of organizations that are more likely to use cloud computing than others. I think it is important to research why organizations use cloud computing and the benefits they receive from using it. Organizations operate differently from one another and the way in which they use cloud computing within their operations will differ from other organizations across industries. One of the main reasons why organizations engage in enterprise cloud computing is to gain competitive advantage over their competitors. Companies are coming to a realization that with cloud computing there are opportunities for cost savings, potential for new business innovations, exceptional agility and speed in a constantly changing technological environment and enhanced partnerships with vendors and consumers. Finding ways to cut costs to increase profits is always at the top of the list for business executives.
