WEEK 3 Collaborative Strategies With Other Professions (graded) It is essential for professional nurses to be skilled in collaborating with professionals from other healthcare disciplines to plan t... he best patient care. What collaboration strategies can professional nurses use to specifically promote collaboration with other healthcare disciplines and professionals? Hello Professor and class, The complexity of current medical care involves certain risks for patients and requires the coordinated and harmonious work of all the professionals who make up the healthcare team. The nurses, together with the medical staff, form the largest group of health professionals, and together they face complex situations, which often do not have simple solutions; therefore, effective communication is an important factor in successfully solving all situations. Communication is the most basic level of information exchange between two people, groups or entities, and includes the transmission of verbal or written information, in addition to non-verbal communication. It has been shown that ineffective collaboration among health providers causes job dissatisfaction among them and compromises the quality of patient care (Nadzan, 2009). “When members of the healthcare team communicate ineffectively with one other, delivery of health care to the patient suffers” (Kearney-Nunnery, 2015, p. 106). Effective communication must be the cornerstone of the countless interactions that take place among healthcare workers in daily clinical practice. In addition, collaboration means working together, it is the act of sharing information, coordinating work and making joint decisions about aspects of patient care. All this is teamwork, which involves setting objectives and achieving results together. In all this teamwork there is a need to share skills and knowledge complementing the profiles of each professional involved in the care of patients under a relationship of trust, solidarity and mutual help showing something as precious as our emotions and our best qualities. According to Hood (2014) “Quality and safety for patient’s rely on effective communication among all health team members” (p. 104). The main communication program outlined in this text discussed a standardized approach to follow for our interactions with one another inside the healthcare disciplines. This program (TeamSTEPPS) describes Strategies and Tools to Enhance Performance and Patient Safety (King, 2008). Hood, L. J. (2018). Leddy & Pepper's professional nursing (9th ed.).
