Computer Science > ESSAY > DATA REPRESENTATION IN COMPUTERS (All)
Research data representation in modern computer systems. Based on your research, answer the following: Discuss the difference in machine code, assembly code, and high-level languages. Describe the s ... teps in compiling a C-program. Introduction In computer systems, data representation is the form used in processing, transmitting and storing digital data. Computer devices store data in digital formats for easy handling by the electronic circuitry. Data in digital devices is represented in numeric form through the use of binary number system containing 0s and 1s. Data representation In data representation, digitization is the conversion of every piece information into digital data for easy manipulation by electronic circuitry (Nelson & Ellis, 2019). Numerical data is converted into binary format which is the basic number system used by computers. In representing textual data, the ASCII and Unicode are used. In ASCII representation, each text character is represented by seven bits ASCII characters. Extended ASCII can also be used to represent textual data and it makes use of one extra bit making it eight bits. [Show More]
