HIST-405N Week 1 Case Study Option 2: Slavery vs. Indentured Servitude ALL CORECT ANSWERS GUARANTEED GRADE A HIGHEST SCORE Case Study: Slavery vs Indentured Servitude Early British Colonies of t... he 1600s found tobacco growing lucrative but very physically demanding and needed a large workforce. In the West Indies, especially in Barbados, tobacco and eventually sugar cane workers were required. In these two areas and how they came into being we will look at indentured servitude and slavery. Indentured Servitude Slavery developed in the American colonies to facilitate harvesting and exporting profitable agriculture such as rice, tobacco, indigo, and sugarcane. Sugar production was high in demand and very lucrative. Slave labor eventually was an abundant and economically alternative to indentured servants. [Show More]
