It reduces HIV cognitive manifestations by inhibiting DNA synthesis and viral replication, but must be used in conjunction with other antiretroviral agents to prevent the development of resistance. Bacterial meningitis Didanosine is an antiretroviral medication used to inhibit replication of HIV-1. Bacterial meningitis is not a viral infection and is treated with different therapies. Syphilis Didanosine is an antiretroviral medication used to inhibit replication of HIV-1. Syphilis is an infection caused by a spirochete that is treated with benzathine penicillin G.
