NUR 216 Medication list for Pharmacology Exam Acetaminophen (Tylenol) Class: barbiturates Indications: Aches, Pain, Fever Desired effect: reduce/eliminate pain or fever Mechanism: Inhib ... its synthesis of prostaglandins that may serve as mediators of pain and fever, primarily in the CNS. Labs: temperature, pain level scale Dosage ranges / route / parameters: 325–650 mg every 6 hr or 1 g 3–4 times daily or 1300 mg every 8 hr (not to exceed 3 g or 2 g/24 hr in patients with hepatic/renal impairment). Contraindications: liver disease/HTN/alcohol Side effects: Hepatotoxicity, SJS Considerations: Take as directed, avoid alcohol, discontinue if rash occurs, check labels on all OTC products (avoid taking more than one product with acetaminophen at a time) albuterol (Proventil) Class: Bronchodilator/Adrenergics SABA Indications: Asthma/COPD Desired effect: No Bronchospasms Mechanism: Binds to beta2 -adrenergic receptors. Relaxation of airway smooth muscle with subsequent bronchodilation. Labs: prevention of relief of bronchospasm Dosage ranges / route / parameters: ● 2 inhalations ○ Duration 4–6 hr ○ Peak: 60-90min ○ Onset 5-15min (SABA) Contraindications: ● Hypersensitivity to adrenergic amines Side effects: ● nervousness, restlessness, tremor, chest pain, palpitations.
