From a perspective of mortality, these infections are regarded to be of minimal value yet there are responsible for absence and inactivity from school as well as work, in the general Taiwanese population as compared with other infections. The common forms of URTI affecting the Taiwanese population include the common cold, otitis media (OM), influenza, sinusitis, and bacterial tracheitis among others. According to the Taiwanese National Health Insurance Database, approximately 5, 904 out of the 86, 702 children aged seven, who visited hospitals suffered from OM (Ting, Lin, Huang, Lin, Hwang, Huang, & Chen, 2012). According to the Taiwan Center for Disease Control, URTI attacks are rampant, especially among children. In fact, the attack rates between August 24 and September 5 2014 in a Postpartum nursing home were 62.7% (which is approximately 32 individuals in every 51) and 36.3% (about 45 persons in every 124) in infants and all individuals at risk respectively (Wan-Ling, Meng-Yu, Hao-Hsin, Tzu-Chun, & Jhy-Wen, 2014). Among all URT infections, influenza, which is commonly known as flu is highly prevalent in Taiwan. During the week ending 17 June 2017, CDC reported that 93, 713 people sought treatment for flu in various across the country. The number recorded in that week was the highest as compared to a similar period ever since 2009 (Wei-ting & Hsin-Yin, 2017). During this period, severe cases of flu had reached 677, with 73 fatalities. The data proves how to prevent URT infections are in Taiwan. Nursing Diagnosis: unhygienic practices, especially hand hygiene- poor hand washing practices facilitate the transmission of viruses as an infected individual might shed the viral particles on his/her hand and then pass on the particles to somebody else through handshaking and handing them objects such as credit cards and pens. Readiness for learning: For the target aggregate, the factors that would indicate readiness for learning includes feelings related to hand washing practices, engage in conversation, ask any question concerning to hand hygiene as a way of preventing URT infections, verbalizing understanding, in addition, to open body language. Learning theory to be utilized: There is a wide range of theories that can be utilized in patient education but for this case, I will utilize the ‘show me’ or ‘closing the loop’ method, which is commonly referred to as teach-back method (Xu, 2012). The teach- back approach is an evidence-based practice that is used in educating patients as it allows for immediate feedback. By enhancing the patient's knowledge, this technique makes patients more countable to their own health. The teaching method promotes effective self-management, which in turn boosts the patient's confidence in the management of health, particularly in performing specific tasks such as hand washing (Tamura-Lis, 2013). Through this method, I will utilize the materials to teach the hand washing procedure in a simple and precise language with the medical use of medical terms. In order to evaluate whether the people have understood what I have taught, I will encourage them to either summarize what they learned in their own words or even wash their hands following the taught procedure. The educational strategy will be implemented through appropriate eye contact, setting up a good learning environment, engaging the clients in the entire process by asking them questions, and most importantly, use of body language. Goals: Healthy People 2020 (HP 2020) objective(s) HC/HIT-12: Increase the proportion of crisis and emergency risk messages intended to protect the public health’s that demonstrate the use of best practices (Healthy People 2020, 2018).
