When the full four weeks have passed, you should review your notes/journal and write a summary (900-1,200 words; about 3-4 pages) of your experiences. This summary should: a. provide a general descrip... tion of your experiences (when/where you typically meditated, what your practice was like, how the practice changed and your experiences changed over the four weeks, etc.); b. draw connections with the readings and slides on meditation with the content from Chapter 04 on neuroplasticity and related concepts (i.e. identify where/how your experiences might be understood in terms of class content); specifically, your summary should include a meaningful integration/discussion (with terms both defined and illustrated) of: i. The article by Teper et al (“Inside the Mindful Mind,” 2013) in Canvas ii. Chapters 03-04 of Kabat-Zinn’s Full Catastrophe Living (1990/2005) iii. At least one of the studies discussed in the mindfulness slides (posted in Canvas), and iv. One term/concept from one of the following three sections from Chapter 04 of our textbook: 4.1 on epigenetics and environmental modification; 4.2 on experience, dendritic branching, BDNF, and neurotrophins; or 4.3 on plasticity and axon sprouting.
