Robert Frost was a great formal poet who often wrote about nature (Ford 2004).In this poem, there are many literary tools used, like imagery, mood, and symbolism. He alsocommunicates about how the character is and how the character communicates by showing hisidentity and culture. Lastly, Frost relates it to the human experiences by using those literary tools.Imagery was a main literary tool used in this poem. When Frost says “between the woodsand frozen lake, the darkest evening of the year” (Frost 1922), he is describing the place he is atin the world at that given moment. He is by a frozen lake, near the woods and there must not beany sort of light around because it is the darkest evening of the year, or in other words, it’s thedarkest night he has experienced.
