When Frost says “between the woodsand frozen lake, the darkest evening of the year” (Frost 1922), he is describing the place he is atin the world at that given moment. He is by a frozen lake, near the woods and there must not beany sort of light around because it is the darkest evening of the year, or in other words, it’s thedarkest night he has experienced.
