I am going to be discussing a literary piece that I've read called Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening by Robert Frost. In this paper I will discuss three literary terms that I've found in this poem.... Discuss what the author Robert Frost is trying to tell us about the character. How this character is communicating; and how Robert Frost is conveying the identity and culture of this character. As well as how this passage relates to the human experience overall. To begin, one of the first literary terms I noticed from the poem is imagery. The author Robert Frost does a magnificent job of using imagery by describing the scene that is happening in the poem. He uses lines like "To watch his woods fill up with snow" and "The darkest evening of the year" (Frost, 1923). Which in my opinion really helps us imagine what the character is looking at in order for us to appreciate the piece. The next literary term that I found in this poem was personification. How Robert Frost used personification in this poem is when he's talking about the horse; In the verse "He gives his harness bells a shake, To ask if there was some mistake" (Frost, 1923). In that line he makes the horse seem human. The horse did not use words to communicate but actions through movement which we can in turn familiarize as humans. The final literary term that I found in the poem is repetition. This final literary term is very obvious in the poem because he repeated "And miles to go before I sleep" (Frost, 1923) in the last two lines. The reason I believe he chose to use repetition is he wanted to emphasize to the reader that while he appreciates the beauty of the woods it was not a safe place for him to stay and that he must travel on.What I believe Robert Frost is trying to convey with this character is that they are depressed. Thecharacter is alone with only his horse and him riding along in the woods. When you read "He will not seeme stopping here" (Frost, 1923) it makes you think that the character is of not any importance to anyone Need the answer? 5286 tutors online.
