I have conducted several research projects During medical school I have utilised research opportunities
at the MRC Centre for Neuropsychiatric Genetics and Genomics in Cardiff, most notably the world's
largest analysis of 1q21.1 copy number variation, a known risk factor for neuropsychiatric disease.
Initially this was a small SSC project, however, after impressing my supervisors with my commitment and
standards, I collaborated with peers to expand the project to satisfy requirements for an intercalated
BSc. The project demanded competencies in various domains including neuropsychiatric assessments on
subjects and high-level statistical analysis of data. This has led to medical school prizes and meaningful
clinical findings, of a sufficiently high standard to present at conferences and to allow preparation of a
manuscript for submission to JAMA Psychiatry. It has also led to recognition with a Pathfinder
Fellowship from the Royal College of Psychiatrists to examine the translational potential of this work in
North America, in 2019.
Paid researcher
I also conducted the first PheWAS at the centre for neuropsychiatric genetics and genomics. Se veral
colleagues and I used data from the UK biobank of 500,000 genotyped participants to analyse the
phenotype of carriers of a strongly associated genotype for SCZ.

I am passionate about education and research in medical students thus as President of Cardiff Student
Psychiatry Society - organise medical student teaching and careers events and currently am organising
the national student psychiatry conference, which will take place in Cardiff in February.
I am also Chairman of the Ted Senior Foundation - a charity set up in honor of my best friend who
passed away at the start of the year. We are currently in talks with schools and several universities
about setting up a programme to ease the transition from school to higher education and aim to train
community volunteers to deal with mental health first aid.
