List the primary diagnosis and rational The primary diagnosis for this patient would be is a Right-sided ischemic stroke. Ischemic stroke is an acute neurologic deficit lasting less than 24 hours and caused by cerebrovascular etiology (Bamford, Sandercock & Dennis, 2001). It can be subdivided into an ischemic stroke that is caused by a vascular occlusion, or hemorrhagic stroke caused by a vascular rupture. Stroke is the third leading cause of death and a major cause of disability on the US, and ischemic strokes account for 87% of all stroke cases. Ischemic stoke is more common in African American’s and Hispanic’s (Chambers & Norris, 2006).
