Health Care > CASE STUDY > NR 602) Week 3- Immunization Case Study Assignment (All)
This case study and scenarios are about newborns, infants, children and adolescents getting their required and recommended vaccines. Immunizations are important and care givers should make it a point ... of offering these vaccines at the age appropriate when they visit the clinic. With that content the responses to the case study are as follows: Case # 1 The newborn should get the Hep B Vaccine within the first 12 hours after their birth. This first dose helps protect the baby against any unknown or unnoticed family members that may have Hepatitis B Recombivax HB: 0.5ml (5mcg) taken at months 0, 1 and 6 months. The dose would be 0.5ml (5 mcg). The sequencing would be dose #1, #2, #3. (CDC, 2020). If the mother tested positive for Hep B, then the child would need to get a second vaccine which is called hepatitis B immune globin or HBIG. It helps give the baby extra protection and help to fight off the virus as soon as the baby is born and as soon as the parent is known to be positive for Hep B. If the mothers Hep B status was unknown, then the child will still be given the child the HBIG vaccine at most 7 days from birth (Barnett, 2021). Case # 2 During this visit, the 2-month-old child will begin the Full Vaccine Schedule. At this age, the child will get their second dose of the Hep B vaccine. There are also another 5 vaccines that they should get. The Rotavirus Vaccine, the Diphtheria Vaccine, the Hib Vaccine, the PCV13 (Pneumococcal) Vaccine, and the IPV (Polio) Vaccine (CDC, 2020).
