Comparing France V. United States Healthcare Systems
Introduction
Although America spends approximately twice as much France on healthcare systems, France offers better healthcare services to its citizens, ranking first among the OECD members (Bourne, 2014). As opposed to the United States where the private sector funds a significant proportion of healthcare system, France’s government agencies fund more than 77 per cent of the entire healthcare sector, making the services highly affordable and more or less not-for-profit operational. Moreover, the government fully funds the medical school, thus reducing the price of the doctor. The government also pays the doctors a predetermined sum; thus, the patients only pay the extra on the total charges. Regarding access, a relative lager population proportion lacks health insurance, and many insured complain of high deductibles to support their covers. By 1980, 99 per cent of the France population had obtained and latter in 2000, a law was enacted that extended the coverage to the remaining population (Dutton, 2002). However, the United States offer better quality health services than France. The availability of managed care providers enhances productivity measures in the U.S while lack of such measures and the medical confidentiality laws hamper implementation of quality health measures in France. Understanding these differences would be essential in promoting the healthcare systems in the U.S
