PMHNP FB POST STUDY GUIDE FOR BOARDS To study I used the ANCC purple book (read only chapter 2-8 and re read chapter 2 and 4), Fitzgerald , board vitals, memorable psychopharmacology videos, ANCC pr... actice IQ, ANCC test taking skills, and memorable psychiatry. I found that the questions weren't exactly like any study aid I used in terms of difficulty but resembled ANCC IQ questions the most. YOU MUST DO ANCC IQ please do not neglect these practice questions you will be doing yourself a great disservice. The exam in my opinion was challenging. It is very important that you understand basic policy: nurse practice acts, scope of practice, prescriptive authority, DEA, standards of practice ect. You must also be knowledgable of the quality improvement process, how to implement policy in an organizational setting, just culture of safety, change agents, leadership as an NP, cultural competency, integrated practice and collaboration. Be familiar with research terms and each of the studies. Know your various preventions (primary, secondary, tertiary). Be very familiar with therapeutic communication...what would the NP say to the patient in various scenarios with patients ranging in age from adolescents to the elderly (quite a few questions involving kids on the exam including child abuse (what to do when confronted with child abuse in practice and the primitive reflexes of the newborn!) Dont forget to review your tanners stages of development. Be very familiar with the differences between depression, delirium, and dementia, characteristics of each type of dementia, and the components of the MMSE and how to interpret its scores. Be familiar with the Mini cog. Know your depression rating scales PHQ9, Beck ect. and Ham-A. Know the various areas of the brain and their functions. Know your cranial nerves.
