Wayne McGregor is a British choreographer and director who has won several awards. McGregor was
born in 1970 in the English town of Stockport. He studied dance at the José Limon School in New
York and at Bretton Hall College at the University of Leeds. He was named Choreographer-inResidence at The Place in London in 1992, and he launched Random Dance the same year which then
became known as Company Wayne McGregor. In 2002, Wayne McGregor was asked to join the new
Sadler's Wells as a Resident Company. He is the Royal Ballet's first Resident Choreographer with a
contemporary dance experience, having been appointed in 2006. McGregor was named the Venice
Biennale's Director of Dance through 2024 in 2021. 1
