II. Short Answers (each question is to be answered in a maximum of 100 words in the Examination Book, 15 points):
1. Explain the origin, or the etymology, of the term "boulevard" and by what process were created the Parisian "Grands Boulevards".
• Boulevard refers to the flat summit of a rampart.
• Created when Louis XIV saw the walls around Paris and thought they weren’t useful anymore so he leveled them and the walls became roads that go around the city.
2. For what reason does Louis Sébastien Mercier write that the capital has an “unhealthy size"? the size of the city makes it impossible to control everyone and everything that is going on. (con of microcosm)
3. Explain the obsession of certain rulers like Louis XIV and Napoléon with what is called "La Gloire". Please give specific Parisian examples of the modes of expression of “La Gloire" for Louis XIV and Napoléon I.
