NUR 401 - Mechanically Ventilated Case Study. Ella Lou is a 77 y.o. Caucasian female who has not history of prior respiratory disease and is being admitted to your ICU from the emergency department ... (ED). You are to be her admitting nurse and receive the ISBARR report from the ED RN as follows: I: RN in ED S: Ella Lou presented to the ED earlier today extremely short of breath (SOB), stuporous & cyanotic. She is getting admitted by Dr. Ibreathe with the diagnosis of pneumonia and acute respiratory failure. B: Ella Lou lives alone but has great family support from her daughter and son. She has had a 3-day complaint of increasing cough, fever and SOB. Her daughter called this AM and Ella Lou was so short of breath she could not talk much so the daughter brought her mom to the ED. She has a history of HTN, gout, hyperlipidemia and a recent UTI treated as an outpatient. She has never smoked. She was given IV NS at 30 mL/hour and her BP is now with a MAP > 65 mmHg.
