Rican, Cuban, Central or South American. Hispanic/Latino Americans might also be of other Spanish origin or culture. This is regardless of race an individual belongs to. It is estimated by the US Census Bureau that there are about 59 million Hispanics/Latinos living in the US (HHS.gov, 2020). This particular group represents 18% of the US total population. The states that have the largest population of Hispanic/Latino people include Florida, California, Texas, Illinois, New York, Colorado, Arizona, Georgia, New Jersey, and New Mexico. Describing the health status of the Hispanic/Latino group The projections of the US Census Bureau shows that an average life expectancy for Hispanics/Latinos is 82 years. The life expectancy for women is 84 years, while that for men is 80 years. Several factors shape the health of Hispanics/Latino. These factors include cultural/language barriers, inaccessibility to preventive care, and not having health insurance since Hispanics/Latinos have one of the highest rates of uninsured in the US. For instance, 20% of individuals aged 65 and below do not have health insurance coverage (CDC.gov, 2020). Concerning the health status of the Hispanic/Latino population, the percentage of all people in poor health is 10% (CDC.gov, 2020). The poor health status is attributed to high rates of obesity, smoking, and hypertension. The CDC also outlined some of the major causes of mortality among Hispanics/Latinos.
