History > CASE STUDY > Punishment and the State: A Reflection (All)
The politics of imprisonment in Australia have mixed reactions among the victims of crime, the judiciary, prisoners, and the general community. The NSW correctional system classifies inmates in severa ... l categories, which are determined by the level of risks they pose to national security. This paper will discuss the political legislation and stakeholders involved in establishing the classification systems and other policies within the correctional system. The discussion will also offer a reflection on the types of offenses and fines applied in the NSW justice system. More specifically, the reflection will be discussed using various case studies involving offenders and the NSW sentencing council. Also, the paper will present a case study of white-collar criminals, while the second part of the essay will be a personal view of the Australian punishment system. [Show More]
