Hey Everyone!
Hope your week is going great so far!
This week we are looking into the American Nurses Association’s Nursing: Scope and Standards of Practice. Pages 11-15 address how art and science is integrated in the nursing field. As nurses it is important to be caring and compassionate, but also it is important to be able to be able to utilize qualitative and quantitative data. A nurse that is not able to do both is not going to be able to be efficient or accomplished in his or her work. The goal according to our book of the Scope and Standards of the Nursing Practice is “To improve the health and well-being of all individuals, communities, and populations through the significant and visible contributions of registered nursing using standards-based practice” (Potter, 2017). A nurse that is only caring and compassionate (succeeds in the art of science) might not be able to do the analysis of numbers and signs that is needed. In this case the patient might not receive the treatment that they need because the nurse was not able to identify the problem. Visa versa a nurse that is only able to look at the data (science of nursing) might struggle relating to the patients and developing a trusting relationship
