Engineering > AQA QUESTION and MARK SCHEMES > STEM CELL THERAPY AND GENETIC ENGINEERING (All)
Stem cell therapy and Genetic engineering are one of the ways to treat large variety of acquired and inherited human diseases. Stem cell Therapy is the use of stem cells to treat or prevent a disease ... or condition, also known as regenerative medicine, promotes the repair response of diseased, dysfunctional or injured tissue using stem cells or their derivatives stated In the modules. What are stem cells? According to mayo clinic Stem Cells are the body's raw materials, cells from which all other cells with specialized functions are generated. Under the right conditions in the body or a laboratory, stem cells divide to form more cells called daughter cells. These daughter cells either become new stem cells (self-renewal) or become specialized cells (differentiation) with a more specific function, such as blood cells, brain cells, heart muscle cells or bone cells. No other cell in the body has the natural ability to generate new cell types. In conclusion stem cells are cells that are found within the human body that has different functions and purposes that help our body, plus this cells has the ability to generate or produce new cells that maybe the reason for scientist to uses them to treat diseases. “Genetic engineering is the process to alter the structure and nature of genes in human beings, animals or foods using techniques like molecular cloning and transformation” Stated in conserve energy future.
