GEOGRAPHY: Mid Latitude Cyclones Case Study

Document Content and Description Below

The visual indicators of a mid-latitude cyclone on this map include the convergence of the warm and the cold fonts represented by the blue triangles on a continuous blue line and red semi-circles on a ... continuous red line. Besides, there is an occluded front represented by the purple semi-circles. The transition zone is represented by alternating blue triangles and red semi-circles in the origin of these two conspicuous air masses. This indicates the parallel and opposite flow of air masses. In this area, the wind moves parallel in opposite directions. Notably, the cyclone is likely to form in two locations in the map marked by the letter L to indicate low-pressure areas. It is worth noting that the boundary between the cold air, which is dry, and the warm air, which is moist, leads to cyclogenesis. The mass convergence of the two air masses leads to a rising motion, which creates reduced central pressure hence the occlusion represented by the purple semi-circles and triangles. The map shows that the cyclone has reached a mature stage indicated by the advanced occlusion from the triple point. It is worth noting that cold air will begin circulating the warm air and the storm. [Show More]
