In other words, they make up the total hours by working together: W + X + Y + Z = 1 1/4 + 1/3 + 1/6 + Z = 1 First, find the lowest common denominator of the fractions. Remember that the denominator is the number on the bottom of the fraction. All of the fractions must be converted into the same denominator in order for you to solve the problem: 1/4 + 1/3 + 1/6 + Z = 1 We have 3, 4, and 6 as denominators in this problem. 3 x 4 = 12 2 x 6 = 12 So the lowest common denominator is 12. Now convert the fractions: 1/4 x 3/3 = 3/12 1/3 x 4/4 = 4/12 1/6 x 2/2 = 2/12 Now add the fractions together: 3/12 + 4/12 + 2/12 + Z = 1 9/12 + Z = 1 9/12 - 9/12 + Z = 1 - 9/12 Z = 1 - 3/4 Z = 1/4 (A) (x - 2)(x - 3) = x2 - 5x + 6 (B) (x - 2)(x + 3) = x2 + x - 6 (C) (x + 2)(x + 3) = x2 + 5x + 6 (D) (x + 2)(x - 3) = x2 - x - 6 - CORRECT ANSWER ... long division of the polynomial: x + 2 x - 3)x2 - x - 6 x2 - 3x _____ 2x - 6 2x - 6 _____ 0 - CORRECT ANSWER ...
