Affects women 4x more than men o Pt usually have had goiter for years  S/S- milder than graves, no exophthalmos or pretibial myxedema - Excessive use of thyroid replacement hormones – exogenous hyperthyroidism Assessment: T3 T4 =  cardiac, metabolism, glucose & respiratory - History – gather age, gender, usually weight – unplanned weight loss,  appetite - HEAT intolerance – increased sweating even when temps. Are comfortable - Cardio – ask for breathing changes – dyspnea at rest or on exertion is common - Vision – blurred vision, eyelid retraction/ lag – ask pt to look down and up - Observe size & symmetry of thyroid gland - Psychosocial – mood swings, irritable,  attention span, manic behavior o Hyperactivity = fatigue – can’t sleep well o Cries or laughs with no reason [Show More]
