Tocolytics - ANS-Produces uterine relaxation and suppress uterine activity in an attempt to halt uterine contractions and prevent preterm birth Magnesium Sulfate indications - ANS--preterm labor -s... evere gestational hypertension Magnesium Sulfate - ANS-CNS depressant, relaxes smooth muscle, use to halt preterm labor contactions; used for preeclampsia to prevent seizures. -commonly used tocolytic ■■ Nursing Considerations ☐Monitor the client closely -Tocolytic therapy should be discontinued immediately if the client exhibits manifestations of pulmonary edema, which include chest pain, shortness of breath, respiratory distress, audible wheezing and crackles, and a productive cough containing blood-tinged sputum. ☐☐ Monitor for adverse effects. ☐☐ Monitor for magnesium sulfate toxicity, and discontinue for any of the following adverse effects: loss of deep-tendon reflexes, urinary output less than 30 mL/hr, respiratory depression less than 12/min, pulmonary edema, and chest pain contraindications for tocolysis - ANS--active vaginal bleeding -dilation of the cervix greater than 6 cm -chorioamnionitis -greater than 34 weeks of gestation -acute fetal distres [Show More]
