Information Management needs to consider of the flow of information in the organisation including how information is communicated and the opportunities and barriers for communicating information, the emphasis of formal information flows through organisational hierarchies that can overlook the informal channels through which information is shared. Espoused values The characteristics of the information provided to the organisation and to be groups within the organisation must reflect the organisation’s values in terms of content, quantity, quality, and preservation to support goals Philosophy The organisation’s philosophy determines the policies that direct business processes and define standards of behaviour. Information management needs to be aligned with the organisation’s philosophy to provide the content and quality of information needed by business processes. Shared meanings The language of social group creates a sense of unity separating the group form others. Within an organisation, different departments attribute different meanings to key terms about which information needs to be managed, such as product, item, and component.
