Something Unexpected by Vi Keeland is a standalone contemporary romance novel that was published on July 3, 2023, by C. Scott Publishing Corp..
Synopsis
The story follows Beck, a grumpy New York businessman and single father, whose grandmother, Louise, has been diagnosed with a terminal illness. In her final months, Louise embarks on a "wicked bucket list" of daring adventures, such as skydiving and scuba diving with sharks. Beck is concerned for her safety and attempts to intervene by contacting her travel companion, Eleanor, who he initially dislikes due to her snarky responses.
Beck flies to meet his grandmother, but a twist of fate leads him to meet a gorgeous woman at the hotel bar looking for a no-strings-attached night, whom he later stands up after realizing she's had too much to drink. The next morning, he discovers that Eleanor, his grandmother's travel companion, is the same woman, Nora, from the bar.
What begins as a humorous "enemies-to-lovers" situation with witty banter (often involving Louise's antics) takes a dramatic and emotional turn as the story progresses. The story explores themes of living life to the fullest, dealing with terminal illness, and finding unexpected love in challenging circumstances.
