Intro: My name is Alana Davicino and I chose Chronicle of a Death Foretold by Gabriel Garcia Marquez. My passage is the scene where the narrator has met up with Angela Vicario and is telling the sto... ry of her life in the years after the drama. My guiding question is, “What messages is Marquez trying to convey in the passage and what literary techniques does he use to do this?” Messages: When people are faced with an unpleasant reality, they should not deny it or become distracted as in Angela’s case, but accept it and find a simple solution and move on. o Angela justifies her behavior. Lines 12: “I went crazy over him,” she told me, “out of my mind.” Makes excuses for contacting, holding on to Bayardo o She lives in the past, doesn’t accept that Bayardo is no longer in her life. Lines 24: “She only had to close her eyes to see him, she heard him breathing in the sea, the blaze of his body would awaken her at midnight.” Imagines him with her, replays memories Line 24: “she became a virgin again just for him” In her own mind, she belongs only to him No relation with any other man o Writes letters to maintain connection She doesn’t move forward; lines 810: “She waited in vain for a reply. At the end of two months, tired of waiting, she sent him another letter in the same oblique style as the previous one…” Nothing is changed, the same negative behavior is repeated She does not change her pattern of behavior according to circumstances, and in doing so refuses to come to terms with reality and change her destructive actions.
