Case Study 1
The Amazon of Innovation
3-8. Based on the facts presented in this case, what do you think is Amazon’s competitive
strategy? Justify your answer.
I believe that Amazon.com’s competitive strategy is to have the lowest cost across the industry.
Amazon is striving to be the one of the largest retailers online. Amazon strives to offer
everything a customer needs or everything they think a customer needs. Companies and
organizations use Amazon as well to save money.
3-9. Jeff Bezos, CEO if Amazon, has stated that the best customer support is none. What does
that mean?
This pretty much means the best customer service is if the customer doesn’t need you. Meaning
that the customer doesn’t have to call you, or doesn’t need to speak with you period regarding
anything which he considers the best customer support. Jeff feels as if he customer can do
whatever they need and doesn’t have to call customer service it’s a good thing.
3-10. Suppose you work for Amazon or a company that takes innovation as seriously as Amazon
does. What do you suppose is the likely reaction to an employee who says to his or her boss,
“But, I don’t know how to do that!”?
I think the likely reaction of the boss would not be a good reaction. Especailly if the worker has
been trained on how to do the task then I would imagine the reaction would not be a good one
and the boss would probably ask the reason why you don’t know how to do the task. Depending
on the boss they may even give a look of amazement or shock depending all on the situation.
3-11. Using your own words and your own experience, what skills and abilities do you think you
need to have to thrive at an organization like amazon?
To thrive in an organization like Amazon you have to have a few abilities and qualities. I think
you have to be customer driven because everything you do at amazon is for customers whether is
putting orders together shipping orders or building orders it’s all for the customer. You have to be
a hard worker and motivated. Team player is a big one have to be able to work with others as
well as yourself.
3-12. What should UPS and FedEx be doing in response to Amazon.com’s interest in drone
delivery?
I think UPS and FedEX should team up with Amazon and other companies that are considering
this idea. They can work together rather than compete against one another that way everybody
wins and can work together to produce a successful drone delivery system.
3-13. Summarize the advantages and disadvantages for brick-and-mortar retailers to sell items
via Amazon.com. Would you recommend that they do so?
