1. Search the Internet to find three applied expert systems in one or several business functional areas in which you have a strong interest. Compare their purposes, complexity, comknowledge represen... tation, and the tools with which they were constructed (shells or programming languages). The expert systems I find out from the internet source are as follows: a. MYCIN: It is a rule based ES that diagnoses bacterial infections of the blood. It helps to find out about 100 causes bacterial infections which allows system to recommend the effective drug prescriptions. It finds out cause of the bacteria by asking the questions and backward chaining through a rule base of about 500 rules. Users can request the rephrasing of questions and user types are automatically fixed. Questions are asked when more data are needed and if the data cannot be provided then system ignores the relevant rules. Controlled test proved it to be equally compared to the human specialists. Being one of the old Expert System one of the oldest programming language LISP was used. I tried to check the updates but could not find about the new one. b. CPEST: CPEST is an expert system for managing pests and diseases of coffee in a developing country. Graphical user interface used in CPEST not only help the farmer in inputting information but also give them visual clues, such as pictures of a pest at different stages of development. System consisted rule set of 150 production rules. CPEST was built in wxCLIPS, a high-level programming language for constructing expert systems. CPEST uses forward chaining reasoning mechanism. c. Customer Support at Logitech: It is one of the largest vendors of mouse devices and web cameras in world. It has so many design and products that it developed the interactive knowledge portal to provide Web-based self-support customer support to its QuickCam customer in North America. It allows the user to ask the question or describe problem in natural language and perform intelligent conversation until it gets all the information needed and gives the decision. It has noHold knowledge platform so it feels like human world is interacting to a customer. I could not find out the Programming language used. 2.
