BACTERIA AND THE EFFECTS OF ANTIBIOTICS NOTE TO STUDENTS: This is a dry lab. You are only expected to perform the portions of this lab that do not require you to use laboratory equipment or supplie ... s. When appropriate, sample data may be supplied in the lab’s data tables to help you answer the questions. Problem: How are the three major forms of Bacteria play an important part different and what are the effects of in our everyday existence. Their role in antibiotics on the growth of bacteria. Goals 1. To identify bacteria cell forms from a prepared slide. 2. To classify bacteria according to their shapes and groupings. 3. To identify and classify bacteria colony characteristics on a Petri dish. 4. To investigate bacterial growth from different environments. They are very small (averaging 1.5 micrometers; 1000 micrometers = 1 millimeter) and are found everywhere, even in the most severe climates on earth. decomposing waste, human digestion, food preparation and production make them indispensable to human existence. On the other hand, the bacteria that are pathogenic (disease-causing) leave in their wake illness and death. Bacteria are classified by their shape and the way they group together. Some of the names may sound familiar to you. For example, their shape dictates if they are a coccus (spherical), bacillus (rod), or spirillum (spiral). When bacteria with these shapes group in a distinctive way, an appropriate prefix is added to their name. For example, when the coccus bacteria group in pairs, they are called diplococcus [Show More]
