Study Guide and Reflection Questions 1. In the episode, the epidemiologists talk about mistrust towards the government and international organizations. What are some of reasons that they give to explain why there was this mistrust? Some reasons why there is mistrust towards the government and international organizations is because when Ebola broke out, the governments first response was trying to control it using coercion, enclosing certain areas of town. The government pursed an involuntary quarantine which basically forced people to be locked up since they were sick. Given that, this caused a panic and a mistrust between the community and government. Now people worried that if they go into quarantine, they wouldn’t be able to get out. 2. The government and public health workers neglected to add an exit to a large Ebola treatment unit. Reflect on what message that sends to the public. What are some ways to remedy trust after an issue like that? Because the government decided to add an exit, this reflects on how the people are seen to the government. The public now know that when situations like this happen they wont be cared for but left in a room with no say of when they are able to come out. Some ways that may r remedy this trust is providing the freedom for patients like adding an exit door and also communicating more of how long they will stay in a Ebola treatment unit or any type of unit. 3. Shankar and the epidemiologists talk about three strands of the web that made this such a complicated case. 1. They had to persuade the young men in the gang to go to the quarantine facility. 2. The woman who ran the drug house (Drug Mama) might be sick too. 3. They couldn't track down Time Bomb [Show More]
