How did young Americans attempt to help in Mississippi? They attempted to help by registering black voters and established freedom schools to teach literacy to those who’d been denied them. 2. How did colleges change during this time? They changed by thousands of students beginning a series of protections that lasted eight weeks. 3. How did Johnson’s escalation of the war in Vietnam affect young people? It affected young people by causing the young Americans to join the war in order to prevent the spread of communism. 4. Why did most Americans believe victory in Vietnam would be quick and easy? They believed this due to their previous victories in World War II. Some examples include the U.S defeating Nazi Germany and Nazi Japan. They also held back the Communist Chinese in Korea.
