PCC What is the correlation between Red Yoder’s open foot wound, the diagnostic findings, and treatment modalities including fluid bolus, insulin, and antibiotic therapy?
Commonly, diabetics have foot ulcers. It is important for diabetics with wounds to stay hydrated to promote wound healing and fight infection. Insulin is important to maintain blood sugars in diabetics.
PCC What potential problems can you identify for Red Yoder if his symptoms are not managed in a timely manner?
Patient could potentially have to have his foot amputated if his wound isn’t maintained and assessed for proper healing.
S/QI For the following Safety/Quality Improvement measures, what nursing actions should be taken during Red Yoder’s case?
Safety measures for the patient include: call bell placed within reach and patient reminded to use call bell before getting up. Non skid socks should be used. Dressing should be assessed and changed q shift. Asesptic technique should be used.
