Quality of Care in a Hospital Measurements of quality of care that should take place in a hospital setting are patient experience, effectiveness of care, safety of care, readmissions, and mortality. The goal of Sunlight Hospital is the outlook on health care services. Patient safety is the cornerstone to quality measures. The key role of quality of care is communication. Communicating initiates, the roles of leadership and understanding to resolve the commission of error. Some examples of structural care are electronic medical systems, proportion of board-certified physicians, and the ratio of providers to patients. Process measures indicate what a provider does to maintain or improve health, either for healthy people or for those diagnosed with a health care condition. These measures typically reflect generally accepted recommendations for clinical practice (Measuring Healthcare,2014). Much of health care quality measures used for public reporting are process measures. While process measures keep track of patient mortality and readmission, the outcome measure reflects the impact of health care services or intervention on patients. Outcome measures may seem to represent the “gold standard” in measuring quality, but an outcome is the result of numerous factors, many beyond providers’ control (Measuring Healthcare,2014).
