NEWS GATHERING AND SOURCES Source is anything that provides information for a purposeful use. In journalism, source is anything worth of a news value that feeds information in public interest. A so ... urce is a person, institute, publication, documents, files , social media etc that disseminate information timely to media content and publication.on the whole, journalist should determine the value and the liability of news source in its content to disseminate factual news. Types of News Sources in a broader category, news sources can be classified into three types. 1.Predictable News Source predictable News sources are source that is likely to happen at given time , date and location where the incidents takes place.Such as celebration, conference, festivals and parliamentary session etc. 2. Unpredictable News Source A type of news source where incidents occurs all of a sudden and out of control.the reporters are unaware about the happening of this incidents.For example- landslides, earthquakes, shootings.etc. 3. Anticipated Sources This is similar to predictable sources except for the fact that anticipated sources are restricted to planned events that a reporter knows will definitely happen. Such events include a national day celebration, budget speech and special anniversaries, workers’ day, and so on. The others Type of News Sources: Press release - This is a type of news source where information can be collected through the official statements made to journalists by the concern organization, a political party or a government department. this type of news source care tagged as “pseudo events”. they attempt to make publicity. Press conference - it is a meeting at which somebody or the concern organization talks to a group of journalists in order to answer their questions or necessary official statements.
