William Shakespeare is well known for being an actor, playwright, and an English poet during the Renaissance period. According to Duncan-Jones (p. 233), he was an essential person in the King's men's ... company that consisted of theatrical players. Shakespeare's date of birth records do not exist, but from records of Stratford's Holy Trinity Church where he was baptized, it is believed that he was born around April 23, 1564 (Duncan-Jones p. 243). Shakespeare's father was a leather merchant, John Shakespeare, and his mother, Mary Arden, a local landed heiress.
