1. Identify, Illustrate and describe the type of structure that best describes the organization Fraser Foods.
Organizations are set up in specific ways to accomplish different goals, and the structure of an organization can help or hinder its progress towards accomplishing these goals. There are tree main ways of organizational structure.
I. Functional Structure
II. Divisional Structure
III. Matrix Structure
Currently Fraser Foods is using the “Functional Structure”
Functional Structure
A Functional Structure is a common type of organizational structure in which the organization is divided into smaller groups based on specialized functional areas such as IT, Finance or Marketing.
However, one of the drawbacks to a functional structure is that the coordination and communication between departments can be restricted by the organizational boundaries of having the various departments working separately.
Advantages:
• Easier management of specialist.
• Team members reports to only one supervisor
• Similar Resources are centralized
Disadvantages:
• Lack of coordination
• Territorial disputes
• Weakening of common bonds
Ex:
Fraser Foods has three Directors, Managing Director (David Fraser), Finance Director (Laura Bolton), Operations Director (Robin Fraser). The business has four Senior Managers — Human
Resources, Production, Product Development and Purchasing. Each manager has a team(s) under them and Administrative Support.
