Research pharmacological interventions that may be used in the treatment or prevention of the condition/disease process. Identify at least two different medications and describe how each medication works. 1. Carbamazepine is used to treat focal or partial seizures, tonic-clonic seizures and mixed mixed such as generalized and focal or partial. It works by slowing down the electrical discharges that cause seizures by slowly turning off the sodium channels in the brain cells. They can be used alone or with other seizure medication and can be used for both children and adults. 2. Phenobarbital is used to treat partial and tonic-clonic seizures in patients of all ages. It is one of the oldest seizure medications and still used because of its effectiveness and low cost to patients. It can be used with other seizure medications and works by enhancing the inhibition of GABA on neurons. 5. Identify one question the patient and/or family may have about the condition/disease process and how you, the nurse, could address it. 6. Identify 3 interprofessional members of the health care team who may be involved with a patient with this condition either in the acute or community setting. [Show More]
