The hospital setting I work in is a complex adaptive system, ever changing, ever evolving, within the HCA healthcare system. Like most systems, it is not without its flaws. A currently followed proce ... ss is still having kinks worked out is the way in which we transfer patients from the Emergency Room (ER) into an inpatient bed status, in a timely manner. Our current process includes the ER Nurse completing a computerized SBAR (Subjective, Background, Assessment, Recommendations) form and then sending it to the receiving unit via a tube system similar to that which a drive-through bank teller would use.
