Not a lot of people are aware of the presence of the American Crocodile Crocodylus acutus within the state of Florida, but surprisingly within the Sothern coastal waters of Florida, lays the only p... opulation of crocodiles within North America. Unfortunately, with the disappearance of habitat due to urban development, we are seeing this unique species slowly dwindle away. Currently because of the unwanted impacts from the urban development, populations of crocodiles and alligators Alligator mississippiensis are being choked into constricted areas. In many cases this leads to interbreeding between these two species, and can cause a decline in pure genetics. Management wants to know the current American Crocodile habitat locations within DadeMiami county Florida. We will designate crocodile habitat to all areas South and East of Miami.
