CRAZY HORSE PODCAST REPORT 1. Why is Crazy Horse a famous figure in American Indian history? He was a hero of the Lakota. He used his life fought against the white American settlers and defended the... land and life of his people. 2. Why did many Lakota refer to him as “a strange man”? His physical appearance was very different than normal Lakota men. He was not as tall as others and has curly hair. 3. How can the Game of Thrones’ line "What good is power if you cannot protect the ones you love?" be applied to the life of Crazy Horse? Crazy Horse’s Wife and Daughter suffered through disease and his daughter died at age three. Power cannot protect the ones he loves because sometimes diseases are powerful than human beings. 4. When was Crazy Horse (CH) born and when did he die? He was born around early 1840s, and he died on September 5, 1877. 5. What tragedy affected CH’s childhood? His mother died early in his life, and he had never had memories about his mother. 6. What was the hunka ceremony about? A Hunka Ceremony gives out Lakota names. It makes two people bond to each other and therefore adopt a restricted relationship between the two. The Hunka relationship will be even stronger than family and be respected by all the family members involved in the ceremony. 7. What was the ‘Grattan Massacre’, what caused it and when did it take place? The Grattan Massacre took place on August 19, 1854. The causation of this Massacre was a cow belonging to the Mormon near Fort Laramie. It was killed by a Sioux whose name was High Forehead. The chief Conquering Bear wanted to negotiate with the soldiers, but no solution got found out. There was a nervous soldier shoot a Sioux, and many soldiers got killed by the Sioux. But Chief Conquering Bear also got killed in this Massacre. 8. What is a Heyoka? A Heyoka is a sacred figure in the Lakota Culture. It always does things in the opposite fashion, and not in the normal direction. 9. How did Crazy Horse earn his name? His father also named Crazy Horse and himself had a horse alike face. 10. What about the Bozeman Trail caused tension between the Lakota and the United States? Lakota’s Hunting ground got crossed by the Bozeman Trail, and the Lakota people did not want the wagon train to pass through. But the United States built forts to protect the travelers.
