INTERVIEW A SENIOR CITIZEN 2 Interview a Senior Citizen Senior citizens are fascinating individuals, most of them have lived through some of the huge events in history and have much knowledge that the... y have gained over the years. I have had the pleasure of interviewing a 66 year old woman, I will not use her real name, so I will use the name Mary. I have known Mary for 3 years I dated her youngest son 4 years ago. I asked her if she will be willing to do the interview because she was a vibrant, active, social older woman who had a positive outlook for all things in life. She gladly accepted the invitation for the interview. Mary loves to talk, so I had to cut down her answers quite a bit for the interview answers, but kept the most important parts. This paper will be covering the most notable aspects of this interview and some things that I have learned from the interview. When I arrived at her home, she invited me inside. Her home was very warm and welcoming. Her home was very nice, clean and decorative for Thanksgiving. I also took a look at her garden, where she has a very great collection of flowers and in another area, she has her fruit trees and vegetables, I have not seen her garden for a while. I was surprised on how big it had got since last time I visited. She loves to be in her garden. We joked around for a bit after I arrived and we sat down in the cute little gazebo in the garden. She brought out some lemonade (she remembered my favorite drink). Mary was very happy on this day. As we spoke about her activities that she does on a daily basis, I was surprised at what activities she does. I thought to myself that I was surprised because I just do not think of senior citizens to be that active as she was. Then I looked in the text and I saw ageism. Ageism is “a prejudice whereby people are categorized and judged solely on the basis of their chronological age”[ CITATION Ber11 \l 1033 ]. I knew that Mary was active but I had no idea of how active.
