Promoting Diversity and Inclusion through Employment of Ex-convicts
Introduction
Diversity and inclusion is one of the hottest topics not just at the workplace but also in communities. In
2020, following George Floyd's death in the hands of police, people from all corners of the world flooded
streets to protest against racial injustices and lack of diversity and inclusion in corporates. Most
companies and corporates responded to this outburst by promising to change the demographics of their
workforces by embracing diverse hiring. While many people, including professionals and key strategists
mandated to oversee the implementation of diversity, are increasingly discussing diversity and inclusion,
research shows most of them use the terms interchangeably, implying they do not know their precise
meaning. What is also interesting about the current talk about diversity and inclusion is that it primarily
revolves around race, gender, sexual orientation, religion, culture, and ethnicity.
