The reader will have the opportunity to gain some insight on those five types of government along with their similarities and differences. Monarchy “ A monarchy is a form of government in which the ruling power is in the hands of a single person. Most monarchies have been rules by kings, usually with the help of a council of advisors” (www.teachersites.schoolworld.com). Greek Settlements did not have any queens. The kings were chosen by the people of a city-state and another was selected if he died or was thrown out of office. The word monarchy was derived from the Greek term monos which means single. In this city-state the king would live a lavish life in the capital city ruling over the various villages. The people of this type of government paid their taxes, obeyed laws and depended on the king as their defense.
