When there is conflict in the family, some members can isolate themselves from the family group. The isolation prevents the conflict from being addressed. A PMHNP’s job is to help the family see how the conflict is affecting the individual family member, and how the conflict is affecting the family as a unit (Wheeler, 2014). When working with a family it is important for the PMHNP to be respectful of the family’s culture. The PMNHM needs to understand the cultural beliefs when interacting with the family and, developing a treatment plan for a family (Nichols, 2014). The assignment will discuss the Hernandez family.
