T... his power, combined with valor, has rendered him the capability to do almost anything he desires. The novel Frankenstein by Mary Shelley is the story of such a man named Victor Frankenstein and his creation: a monster. Although Frankenstein’s creature instills fear in the heart of all of humanity by the agency of its abominable appearance, it is Victor who is the true monster of the novel Frankenstein. Victor Frankenstein’s monstrosity lies, not in his appearance, but in his intellect. Victor’s thirst for knowledge and his ambition of revealing the secrets hidden behind the creation of life make him a monster. He was so engrossed with his search for the “secret of life” that he locked himself in his apartment and gave up any kind of contact that he had with the society. He worked on his project untiringly for many months and did not rest until he reached his objective; however, his over-ambition to be famous clouded his view of determining the potential consequences of his goal to generate life. Only focused on giving birth to a new life, he never thought about the consequences of his actions. While narrating his story, he says, “I had worked hard for nearly two years, for the sole purpose of infusing life into an inanimate body…but now that I had finished…horror and disgust filled my heart” (Shelley 42).
